SASCO CALLS ON STUDENTS TO RETURN TO THEIR RESPECTIVE RESIDENCES

SASCO has learnt with shock that items belonging to students are being stolen in a number of tertiary owned residences across the country. Student rooms have been exposed to looting which is hidden behind fumigation and sanitization at 14 universities currently.

Students have over the years lamented poor security measures at a number of campuses with a bulk of these being historically disadvantaged institutions. These weak security systems exist whilst Managements pays millions of rands to private security companies which are only useful to unleash violence on defenceless students or pay corrupt staff kickbacks to ensure their appointments.

In light of this gross criminality acted out on students, SASCO structures are called upon to defend the belongings of students by being on campus by the end of business on the 6 May 2020 to put an end to this violation. We will accept no further explanation from the complicit Vice-Chancellors, therefore all our structures are instructed to comply with this directive.

We further call on students to go to campus to protect their assets from thugs who are exploiting this period of this pandemic. We remain true to the struggle of workers but we must isolate thugs who are disguised as workers.

We call for a thorough investigation on all affected institutions such criminality must never be allowed to go unpunished, we can’t be facing a virus which threatens the existence of humanity and have such greedy animals who choose to commit such heinous acts against the marginalised.

Students must use this opportunity to go guard what’s theirs, it had become clear that we are our own protectors.
